Presence is Flow

When I first started exploring yoga and meditation, I had this idea that presence was something I could only find in moments of quiet… like sitting in meditation, wrapped in stillness, with nothing but the sound of my breath. I thought that to be fully present, everything around me needed to stop, so I could sink into some magical, peaceful place.

But life doesn’t really work that way, does it?

During our recent retreat, I was reminded…deeply, somatically – of what true presence feels like. I was reminded of it in my muscles, my bones, in the laughter that echoed around the room and in the energy that filled the space.

Presence isn’t only found in the quiet moments. It’s in the movement, in the flow, and in the very rhythm of life. ♾️

Presence is in the flow of life.

It’s those moments when time disappears, and you lose yourself in what’s happening. Not in a ‘disconnected from reality’ kind of way, but in a way that pulls you right into the heart of it all.

Like that evening during the retreat when we were laughing so hard, our cheeks hurt and we couldn’t stop, no matter how much we tried. Or when we were dancing to those unapologetically raw, fuck-you songs that let us shake off everything we’ve been carrying for too long. With each beat, the weight of life lifted a little more, and we let go… together.

In those moments, there was this undeniable, magnetic pull. No holding back. No hiding. No pretending to be somewhere or someone else. It was pure, raw, real joy… and we were fully alive, in it, breathing it in. We weren’t rushing to be done or thinking about what was next. We were completely there.

And that’s when it hit me, presence doesn’t require silence or stillness at all. It doesn’t ask us to quiet our surroundings or find some perfect state of being. It simply asks us to show up. It needs us to be real. To be here, now. To drop the filters, the masks, and the expectations of what “being present” is supposed to look like.

Being in the flow of life is presence.

It’s not about sitting cross-legged on a cushion (though that has its own magic). It’s about being so deeply engaged in the moment—whether it’s loud, chaotic, or peacefully quiet—that nothing else seems to matter. It’s when the outside world fades, and all that exists is what’s in front of you, right now.

You’re not mentally planning your next move, ticking off to-do lists, or wishing you were somewhere else. You’re not dreaming about tomorrow or a different version of today. You’re simply there, exactly where you are supposed to be. No resistance. No escape plans. Just… life. In its fullness.

And in those moments, life feels whole, doesn’t it?

It’s when you’re dancing wildly, laughing uncontrollably, or even crying deeply… all those raw moments are sacred, too. You realize that presence doesn’t wait for perfection or peace; it just waits for you to stop resisting. It’s in the messy, beautiful reality of what is, right now.

When we’re fully present, there’s no need to rush time along or wish the moment away. Life, with all its noise, chaos, beauty, and stillness, becomes a sacred exchange when we’re truly in it. It doesn’t matter if we’re sitting in a quiet room meditating, or if we’re in the midst of something loud and unpredictable. Presence can find us wherever we are, as long as we’re willing to be there, fully alive and awake to the moment.

In fact, sometimes it’s in those wild, unruly moments that we feel most present. The moments when life is swirling around us, and instead of trying to control it or fight against it, we surrender. We let go of the need to force things into stillness, and instead, we find stillness within the movement.

Because being present isn’t about controlling your surroundings. It’s about letting life flow through you, without resistance, without needing to change it.

It’s that feeling when time stops rushing, because you’re not trying to escape it. You’re not waiting for the next thing. You’re not chasing after some future version of yourself. You’re just here, in this moment, content and whole.

And that’s where the magic happens. ✨

In that space of full presence, everything feels sacred. Even the ordinary becomes extraordinary. There’s no need to wish the moment away, or be anywhere else. Life feels complete, right as it is.

The noise, the mess, the beauty, the stillness… it all becomes part of a sacred dance when we’re truly in it.
